A few new photos

I’ve posted some new pictures from the end of January.

You may notice that Ruby’s online photo album looks different. Our previous album was hacked (by lazy hackers that didn’t cause any real damage and just put spammy links everywhere), so we switched to a newer and hopefully more secure program. If you’re a member of the family who wants to post pictures in this album, please contact me for new login information.

More fall photos

We took a ton of pictures in the fall, and I’ve finally finished processing the last of them. There are new pictures from November, as well as December. Here are some of my favorites (follow the previous links to see them all):

Secretly Japanese

It seems like Ruby must have some Japanese blood in her somewhere. Many of her favorite flavors are Japanese, such as nori (seaweed), sushi rice, and edamame (soy beans); and she loves going out for sushi. So for Christmas, I bought her a pair of chopsticks. They’re kind of like a giant clothespin – attached at one end, with a spring to keep them open.

Tonight, I thought we’d introduce them to Ruby and let her have a try at using them. Our expectations were pretty low, but to my surprise, she mastered it right away! As soon as we figured out that she needed to hold the chopsticks in the middle (instead of at the end), she was able to pick things up, even slippery soy beans and tiny grains of rice.

She proudly shows off her new skill in this video (sorry it’s so dark):

Life isn’t always fair when you’re 18 months old

This weekend, we went to the Puyallup Fair, and Ruby had a great time seeing all the animals. She got to touch a cow and a rabbit, and hear some animals making their sounds for the first time (instead of an adult’s imitation).

However, we were disappointed to find that there were NO RIDES that we could take her on. Absolutely everything, even the carousel and the ferris wheel, required you to be at least two years old (or a minimum height of about 36 inches). It wasn’t fair! Ruby would have had a lot of fun on some of the gentler rides. I guess we’ll have to wait until next year.

She did, however, enjoy a famous Fisher scone (a fair tradition):
