Ruby had her four-month checkup today. She charmed everyone with her devastating cuteness, and no big issues came up. She had four vaccinations, two in each leg, and cried for just a few seconds after each one. Ruby is awesome.
Her vital stats:
- weight is 13 lbs, 7oz, which is right in the 50th percentile
- height is 23 inches, which is short: the 8th percentile
- head circumference is 38.5cm, which is even smaller: the 5th percentile
The last number was a little bit of an issue, because her head size hasn’t changed since the last checkup. This could just be due to variance in measuring techniques, since it’s not an exact science. Here are the growth charts they use for determining percentiles. These numbers are based on formula-fed babies (for consistency, presumably?) and breast-milk-fed babies do grow differently.
In any event, we’re taking her in next month just to get her head remeasured to make sure it is growing. Since her overall weight is still progressing nicely, there’s not too much concern at this point.
